Accredited laboratories support compliance monitoring of permissible limits of discharges, emissions of air contaminants and waste generated by industry

Ecuador’s legal framework stipulates “the right of people to live in a healthy and ecologically balanced environment …,”. One of the functions of the municipal government isĀ  to “regulate, prevent and control environmental pollution “. To comply with these guidelines, the Metropolitan District of Quito developed the Metropolitan Ordinance No. 0404.
This ordinance establishes mechanisms of control to verify compliance with the environmental regulations and provides that for the monitoring of the compliance with permissible limits of discharges, emissions of air contaminants and waste generated by industries, sampling and analysis of liquid effluents, air emissions, solid wastes and noise shall be performed in laboratories accredited by the Ecuadorian Accreditation Service.
